Development of a workpiece machining process ensuring necessary accuracy, rigidity, and repeatability after heat treatment

A new product called for machining of a critical part after its heat treatment, posing a challenge of exacting accuracy requirements for a part which is hard to machine.

Project features

A solution was developed using the OKUMA GENOS M560R-VE-A machine tool with the GSA CNC-250R turntable after heat treatment, providing the necessary accuracy, rigidity, and repeatability. An important factor contributing to the success of the project was special additional tooling: a chuck and a special centre made by SCHUNK, and cutting tools from ISCAR.

Project result

The process successfully implemented. A trial lot of the parts was manufactured, subsequently the product was put into quantity production; it is competitive with imported analogues.
